I am amazed with the creative ways the YouTube technology has evolved. Clicking within videos and linking to other videos based on those decisions creates a kind of "choose-your-own-adventure" experience, a strong context for cause-effect language. Check out
The HotWheels Custom Motor Cup Challenge, a YouTube series that allows kids to choose cars, enhancements, then follow their race! This could be useful for all kids, but would be especially motivating for difficult students.
Language Lens:
- Watching and reviewing the races would be a great way to elicit temporal/sequential (recounting what happened) and causal (why it might have happened) language.
- A simple T-chart could serve as a graphic organizer- What we chose/Results- over multiple trials, and help students see the causal connections of their choices.
